  • Montreal HC win their 4th Stanley Cup challenge, defeating the Winnipeg Victorias 3 games to 1. The Ottawa Senators defeat Montreal for the CAHL championship and win their first Stanley Cup. In a second Stanley Cup Challenge, the Ottawa Senators beat the Rat Portage Thistles 2 games to 0.
  • The first ice hockey league in Europe begins, contested by five teams from Princes Skating Club and Hengler's Ice Rink, both in London.

  • The New York Yacht Club retains the America's Cup as Reliance defeats British challenger Shamrock III, of the Royal Ulster Yacht Club, 3 races to 0 (Shamrock III abandoned the third race)
